How To Keep Your New Year’s Resolution
So how’s your new year’s resolution? If you have been able to keep your plans, good for you! But if you notice yourself slipping from your goals, it’s time to fine tune your resolve so you can continue to run after your goals for 2018.
Break your end goal into achievable mini goals. – Take baby steps or small reasonable goals that lead to your ultimate end goal. Teresa Amabile, a Harvard researcher, discovered that a small but powerful workplace motivator was daily progress. If you can facilitate progress, you will have better results. Small wins can produce confidence that will encourage you to work more towards your goal. The closer you get to something, the more willing you are to get to work to achieve your goal.
Do less things more frequently. – Achievements require hard work. We need to exert sustained effort over a period of time. We are most productive when we focus on a small number of projects on which we devote a large amount of attention. Moreover, we need to consistently do these things in order to attain momentum.
Document your progress. – Documentation allows you to see the direction of your journey, your pitfalls, your struggles and your successes. Recording your progress allows you to gain perspective in hindsight. It opens doors not only for you but also for others.
Be gentle with yourself. – If you make a mistake,or you backslide in your resolutions, start again. Consider these challenges as something to be overcome. Stop beating yourself. It’s not the end of the world. Nevertheless, it is not an excuse to throw all your plans out the window. Move on and start over again.
